Supporting the Rich Agricultural Legacy of Maryland’s Eastern Shore

Originally built in 1920, The Packing House once served the Phillips Packing & Seafood Company which once employed thousands of people across Maryland’s Eastern Shore. From Cambridge, the Phillips Company served as an engine of economic development and food production, supplying K and C rations to US troops during World War II and even acting as a major site in the Eastern Shore’s Civil Rights Movement. When the company closed in the 1960’s, the jobs dried up and the community suffered.

Agricultural Legacy

A New Chapter for a Cambridge Landmark

When Cross Street Partners met with the broader Cambridge community, we developed a collaborative vision to re-purpose the historic warehouse as a mixed-use hub supporting innovation for the region’s aquaculture and Ag-Tech industries, as well as fostering entrepreneurship across the Mid-shore.

Anchored by the Md. Dept. of Housing and Community Development, Blue Oyster Environmental, and MERGE Incubator, The Packing House houses a synergistic mix of creative entrepreneurs, food production, and retail that provides meaningful employment for the Cambridge community while promoting essential nutrition and public health programs across Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
