In partnership with Beta Verde LLC, CSP is repurposing the former Bahnson Company Building into a vibrant, mixed-use development aimed at supporting Winston-Salem’s creative ecosystem and fostering healthy food enterprises. The second phase of a neighborhood-focused strategy along the Marshall St Corridor, 1001 is slated to follow on the heels of 1007 S Marshall St.

Project History
Constructed in 1924, 1001 S. Marshall Street served as a hub for manufacturing, research, and development for The Bahnson Company, a leading supplier of air handling and HVAC systems, until 1985.
While the property has changed hands several times in the decades since, 1001 has remained continuously occupied — continuing to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in Winston-Salem. While active, the property has experienced significant deterioration over time and now requires substantial rehabilitation to restore its historic character and unlock its full potential.
When Complete
1001 S. Marshall Street will serve as a collaborative hub for designers, artists, growers, makers, distributors, retailers, and entrepreneurs — honoring its legacy as a small-business incubator while celebrating the region’s deep agricultural history.
The project will include the Beta Verde shared-use commercial kitchen, affordable housing for teachers and artists, a shared textile research & development lab, and a range of retail and event spaces.
