Originally built in 1920 as a furniture factory, the building later became part of the Phillips Packing Company empire, which employed thousands of people in Cambridge at its peak and supplied rations to troops during WWII. The Packing House will house a synergistic mix of tech and creative entrepreneurs, food production and food related retail/eateries as well as a 2-story, light-filled open atrium space for continuous public programs and private events.
MERGE’s new space features 31 new private offices, 3 suites, 7 conference rooms and 4 phone rooms with a large shared open kitchen.
Additional work for the renovation includes: exposed brick wall, exposed ceiling at corridors and common areas, acoustic drop ceilings at offices, custom copy / print stations, lobby / reception area, installed VAV terminal units, spiral duct work, power and lighting are on occupancy sensors, installed sprinkler system, new egress staircase, glass and glazing throughout, carpeted floors at private offices and conference room, new hardwood floors throughout, painted partitions and custom painting.
The build out was completed on time and on budget.
